30. Simple days

It was one of those weekends I couldn't decide what to wear. It was hot, windy and cloudy on Saturday, so I went with this simple utility dress from Madewell I bought during winter. It sat in my closet for 3 months waiting for me to take it in because I got the size wrong... Finally I took it in last weekend, but it still needs work as I look at these photos. For me the waist is extremely important because mine is small and it balances out my hips really well when accentuated.

I quite like Madewell dresses, they're simple but pretty.

Summer White

I can feel summer coming... 26 degrees and counting today. Back to long warm days, bbq's, cider, bare legs and summer dresses, hooray!

Whistles is another one of those labels where I'd like to buy everything! Every season they create beautiful silk dresses with fabulous prints and classic cuts. This one reminds me of a 1960's tennis dress.

...I spun around one too many times!

Mad Men Tea Party

One of my gorgeous girlfriends celebrated her birthday on the weekend with a Mad Men inspired tea party. Such a beautiful day (with the exception of a few rain drops), it was full of bubbles, cupcakes, sandwiches and lovely ladies!

I've been wanting to try a red lip for some time now and thought this would be the perfect occasion. So off I went to visit the girls at the MAC counter. The result... MAC Ruby Woo, a matte retro style lipstick. As I'm not a frequent wearer of lipstick (I prefer gloss) it took me 10-15 minutes to perfect my lips the next day... it's hard to believe those MAC girls can glide it on in seconds.

My fur stole is from Rose & Ruby - two Australian designers who sadly no longer exist. This is just one of the many beautiful items I own from their collections, which were all lovingly made in Australia from French laces and Italian silks.

Ruby Woo how I love you so!

Wearing bright colours

It seems I've taken quite a liking to red of late. I did say I was going to wear more colour! This shade of fire-engine red makes everything look brighter so I like it a lot.

Minimal to more : accessories

I have recently "rediscovered" accessories. It's not that I didn't wear them, but I went through a minimal phase where I only wore my engagement ring and a simple necklace that I hadn't taken off for over six months.

Now I can't seem to wear enough! I've pulled out statement necklaces, I'm obsessed with cuffs and layered bangles and my eye is drawn to beautiful bright colours. So I've put together a list of lovable accessories from my favourite designers right now (I couldn't actually fit them all in, so here are a few):

I know I said I was wearing more colour this week, and I am! It's just yesterday was colder and I had to wear pants. The only pants I own are black, plus jeans of course, but they don't count today.

Reading is one of my favourite ways to relax and pass time. When I fall into a book full of wonderful images I always emerge with an unbandance of ideas for my wardrobe and house... I'm not sure my fiance thinks my ideas are as good as I think they are!

I could look through a book 100 times and never fail to draw inspiration. Below are some of the Fashion and Interior Design books (old and new) I'm looking to add to my collection:

One of my friends recently said to me "books will become obselete in the future", which is quite sad and I don't believe it to be true! There are lots of people like me who enjoy collecting novels by thier favourite author or design/photography/fashion books. You can't feel and touch the pages on an iPad - admittedly I used my iPad as a reader for the first time last month to read 'The Help'...

Because I'm from Melbourne, I wear too much black. But I'm working my up to wearing more colour. I don't think my outfit today really counts, but it's certainly getting easier as the weather gets better. I love colour-blocking, so this past weekend I had a mix and match session to come up with a number of outfits with at least two colours in each combination. Results coming soon...
